Football Boot Sole Stitching and Reglue: When and What It Costs

Football boots take constant twisting force with every change of direction, so the outsole is usually the first thing to fail. Many players hear about "sole stitching" without knowing how it differs from regluing, or when each is actually needed. This guide explains both, plus reference repair prices for 2026.
Why football boot soles separate?
Most modern boots join the sole with adhesive, not stitching. During a match, the toe and heel flex and twist hundreds of times; artificial turf adds high friction, and heat and moisture from sweat age the glue line faster than everyday wear would.
A common misconception is that only cheap boots come apart. Quality boots separate too when they are old enough — the glue simply lasts longer before it goes. How often you play decides how quickly that timeline arrives.
Do not stretch out a separated sole: an open toe lets sand and water into the midsole, the surrounding glue line peels next, and the boot degrades much faster.
Minor separation or serious separation
Minor: the sole edge has lifted less than one third of its length, with no deep opening at the toe. Cleaning, fresh specialty adhesive and proper clamping are enough — a cheap, fast fix.
Serious: the gap runs longer than a third, or opens at the toe or heel, or the sole has shifted out of alignment. Glue alone will not hold, because adhesive only works when both surfaces are clean and pressed tight. The full sole needs regluing plus stitched reinforcement — a seam running through the sole edge and upper that holds the sole mechanically as the glue line ages. This is the "sole stitching" players talk about.

One thing to understand correctly: stitched reinforcement is a repair technique for cemented boots, not a preventive step for new ones. A new boot with its glue line intact gains nothing from stitching — it only punctures the material.
Should you reglue at home?
For a very small separation, DIY regluing is reasonable if done properly:
- Clean both separated surfaces thoroughly and remove all old flaking glue; leftover dust is the number one reason the repair fails a second time.
- Stuff the boot with paper to hold its shape before applying glue, so it does not dry warped.
- Apply a thin, even layer of specialty sole adhesive — a thicker bead does not bond better, it just oozes out.
- Clamp tightly or wrap with cord for at least a few hours, then let it stabilize for 24 hours in a cool ventilated spot before playing.
Know the limits before you start:
- Household glue or super glue cannot handle constant flexing, and it hardens the surrounding rubber — the next failure is harder to repair.
- Separation across the midfoot or an open toe usually means the midsole foam has cracked; outside glue will not reach the problem inside.
- Hand stitching with ordinary needle and thread often tears new holes into the edge, letting water into the midsole — the damage multiplies.

Reglue and stitching prices — 2026 reference
EXTRIM rates for sole-related repairs (final quote confirmed after we inspect the boots):
- Small localized reglue: 100,000 VND
- Edge reinforcement, separation under one third: 250,000 VND
- Full sole reglue and stitched reinforcement: 450,000 VND
- Add cleaning to any repair from 250,000 VND: +99,000 VND per pair
Repairs and reinforcement carry a 2-month warranty and take 5–7 days. For boots in regular use, it is worth sending them in mid-season rather than waiting for the toe to open — early repairs always cost less than late ones.
When should you send your boots to EXTRIM?
Stop DIY and send the boots in when: the gap runs over one third of the edge, the toe or heel has opened, the sole has shifted, the midsole foam is cracked, or a previous home repair has failed again. EXTRIM's sole protection and repair service handles everything from small reglues to full sole regluing with stitched reinforcement, clamped in proper jigs instead of hand-tied cord. The fundamentals of stitched soles are covered separately in stitched sole shoes: benefits and repair.
